A SIX-WEEK SMALL-GROUP COACHING PILOT
More Choices, More Say
Keep caring deeply about your work. Have more say in what it asks of you.
Six weeks of small-group coaching with Shawn L. Copeland, using the Becoming mBODYed Archetypes to explore the conversations, decisions, and demands where you want more choice.
January 18–February 24, 2027 · 10 people · Live on Zoom
Life should be something you live, not something you handle.
The work is ready, but we keep making final changes. Someone asks for help, and we agree before considering the week ahead. We finally make some space, then feel guilty for having it.
We’re still delivering. But we want more choice in how we work and more room to live.
We may have tried setting better boundaries, being more confident, or getting organized enough to finally catch up.
When our value is measured by how dependable, prepared, or agreeable we are, we begin to feel we have to be those things to belong. Another response may feel like risking our place.
These responses have helped us build work and relationships that matter. Before asking ourselves to change, we need to understand why we rely on them.
What do I want now? And what am I willing to give for it?
What we’ll do in the pilot
Bring an actual situation: a request you agreed to, a conversation you keep replaying, or a decision that’s become hard to make. You don’t need the “right” archetype or a complete explanation.
Recognize the response
Use the Archetypes to notice what caught your attention, what you found yourself doing, and what became difficult to consider.
Understand what’s at stake
Explore what the response helps you preserve, alongside the demands and constraints you’re facing.
Explore another possibility
Consider what’s being asked before agreeing, let finished work be finished, or let someone else carry their part. We’ll look at what support would make another choice workable.
In a group of ten, you’ll have room for your own situations and learn from one another. Someone else’s experience may help you recognize something you’ve struggled to explain. What you notice between sessions shapes our next conversation.
The Archetypes, briefly
Familiar ways we’ve learned to stay valued, included, and dependable. You may recognize more than one.
Over-efforting — The work is ready, but it’s never quite done.
Burning Out — We keep meeting what’s expected. There’s less of us left afterward.
Impostoring — The work goes well, but being seen doesn’t feel safe.
Disconnecting — We get through the moment and pick up the pieces afterward.
Seeking — We learn more, but more is never enough.
Resolving — We have an explanation before the question, because that’s what the room expects.
Pleasing — We know what’s required of us, despite what it asks of us.
Appeasing — We know what could happen if we don’t go along.

The experience behind the work
I’m an executive coach and creator of the Becoming mBODYed Method. My work grew through professional performance, higher education, somatic education, and coaching. I know what it’s like to become very good at doing what success requires, then question whether continuing has to require the same things from us.
“Shawn understands the academic environment from the inside. As an accomplished educator who moved from adjunct to tenured studio professor, he knows the pressures faculty carry and the physical and emotional cost of sustaining excellence. His integration of somatic training with professional realities makes his work both practical and deeply relevant.”
