Life should be something you live, not something you handle.

You’re good at keeping things moving. People count on you. But keeping everything going is leaving less of you for the life you want to live.

You finally get a day without back-to-back meetings, and your brain is fried. Someone asks for help, and you’re rearranging the week before you’ve decided whether to say yes. Even when you make time for yourself, it can be hard to stop thinking about what still needs doing.

You don’t want to stop caring. You want more control over what fills your days, more choices about what you take on, and enough of yourself left to enjoy it.

More Choices, More Control

A six-week small-group coaching pilot with Shawn L. Copeland

For accomplished, ambitious people carrying significant responsibility who want more room to live without giving up the work that matters to them.

Together, we’ll explore the familiar responses that keep you preparing more, agreeing quickly, or carrying responsibility long after you meant to put it down. You’ll learn to recognize what’s happening early enough to consider another choice.

You’re still getting it done. You want another way to continue.

THIS IS FOR YOU IF…

  • You’re dependable, capable, and often the person others turn to when something needs handling.

  • You say yes because you can see how to make it work, then wonder where you’re going to find the time.

  • You finally have an open day, but you’re too mentally exhausted to do what you’d planned. The unfinished work moves into the weekend.

  • You keep making final changes to work that’s already ready.

  • You know your work is good, but the attention it brings can be uncomfortable.

  • You want time for yourself, but when you get it, you feel guilty or aren’t sure what you want to do.

  • You’re interested in a different way forward, but your first thought is, “I can’t put another thing on my plate.”

You may have tried a better calendar, firmer boundaries, another qualification, or waiting for things to quiet down.

Those things can help. But when being valued depends on being prepared, agreeable, or always available, changing how you work can feel like risking more than a deadline.

Before asking you to change a response, we need to understand what it’s been doing for you.

Understand the pattern. Find another possibility.

The Becoming mBODYed Archetypes describe familiar ways we respond when being valued, included, or trusted feels dependent on how we show up.

You may recognize more than one:

Over-efforting
The work is ready, but it’s never quite done.

Burning Out
You keep meeting what’s expected. There’s less of you left afterward.

Impostoring
The work goes well, but being seen doesn’t feel safe.

Disconnecting
You get through the moment and pick up the pieces afterward. Recovery doesn’t restore you the way it used to.

Seeking
You learn more, but more is never enough.

Resolving
You have an explanation before the question, because that’s what the room expects.

Pleasing
You know what’s required of you, despite what it asks of you.

Appeasing
You know what could happen if you don’t go along.

These are responses, not identities. Different situations and relationships can bring different ones forward.

We’ll use them to understand what happens in your life, what feels at stake, and where another choice might become possible.

Bring what’s already filling your week.

You don’t need to arrive with everything figured out.

Bring the conversation you keep replaying. The commitment you wish you’d considered longer. The work you can’t quite put down.

We’ll look at what caught your attention, what you found yourself doing, and what made another response difficult.

Then we’ll explore possibilities that fit your circumstances. Asking for time before answering. Letting a compliment land. Sharing responsibility without taking it back.

You’ll also learn through what other people bring. Someone else may describe a moment that helps you recognize something you haven’t been able to put into words.

You’re already busy. Here’s how we’ll work.

Each week begins with a short video, reading, and writing prompt you can work through in your own time.

There will be two opportunities each week to join live coaching and Q&A on the content. We’ll arrange session times with the cohort. You can attend one or both, watch the recordings, and send questions ahead when you can’t attend.

The situations you’re already navigating become the material for our work together.

Your place includes

  • Six weeks of videos, readings, and writing prompts.

  • Two live coaching and Q&A options each week.

  • Recordings for enrolled participants, with requested omissions.

  • A small group limited to ten people.

You can request that something you share be omitted from a recording or removed from the version shared with the cohort. Participants are expected to keep one another’s personal material within the group.

I know what it means to become good at what success requires.

I’m Shawn L. Copeland, DMA, an executive coach and creator of the Becoming mBODYed Method.

My work grew through more than two decades in professional performance, higher education, and teaching people about movement and behavior under pressure.

Before becoming a tenured professor, I spent seven years holding as many as four positions at once, across three fields and three states. I knew how to prepare, work hard, and keep meeting the next demand.

Eventually, I had to question whether continuing meant success had to keep requiring the same things from me.

That question became central to my work. We can respect what our familiar responses have helped us accomplish and explore whether they still need to determine what happens next.

“Shawn understands the academic environment from the inside. As an accomplished educator who moved from adjunct to tenured studio professor, he knows the pressures faculty carry and the physical and emotional cost of sustaining excellence. His integration of somatic training with professional realities makes his work both practical and deeply relevant.”

Dr. Amy Hardison Tully — Dean, College of Fine Arts, Texas Christian University

“I didn’t expect this to change how I stood in front of a room. But what was shaping me before I ever opened my mouth turned out to be the real issue, not what I said.”
